All 27 Nakshatras: Your Vedic Birth Star, Sanskrit Name & Meaning
The Vedic sky is divided into 27 lunar mansions — nakṣatras(नक्षत्र) — each spanning 13°20' of the zodiac. Your birth nakshatra is where the Moon was at the moment you were born. It is considered more personal than your sun sign and reveals your deepest nature, instincts, and spiritual path.
नक्षत्र (Nakṣatra) — What the word means
Nakṣatra comes from two Sanskrit roots: na (not) + kṣarati (to decay / to fall). A nakshatra is that which does not decay — the eternal stars. Each nakshatra has a ruling planet (lord), a ruling deity, a symbol, and a set of personality qualities.

How to Find Your Birth Nakshatra
Your nakshatra is determined by the Moon's position in the sidereal zodiac at your birth. You need your exact birth date, time, and location. Unlike Western sun signs, which are easy to calculate, nakshatra calculation requires precise astronomical data.
Use VedaLingo's Nakshatra finder (enter your birth date)
Ask a Jyotiṣa (Vedic astrologer) for your janam kundali
Use any Vedic astrology software with sidereal calculation
Note: Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac (nakshatra positions), not the tropical zodiac used in Western astrology
