The Cat as Judge

न्यायाधीशः विडालः

स्वार्थी न्यायाधीशः न भवेत्।

svārthī nyāyādhīśaḥ na bhavet.

A self-interested person should not be a judge.

The Empty Burrow

एकस्मिन् वने एकः शशः आसीत्। तस्य नाम शीघ्रगः। सः प्रतिदिनं आहारार्थं दूरं गच्छति स्म। एकदा सः बहु दूरम् अगच्छत् — बहु विलम्बेन अगच्छत्। तस्य अनुपस्थितौ एकः कपिञ्जलः — शकुनिः — बिले प्राविशत्। सः बिले सुखेन अनिद्रत्।

In a certain forest there was a rabbit. His name was Shighraga. He would go far away every day to find food. One day he went very far — he came back very late. During his absence, a partridge — a bird — entered his burrow. The partridge slept happily in the burrow.
