मृत्युः अन्तः नास्ति — कर्तव्यम् चिरं जीवति।
Mṛtyuḥ antaḥ nāsti — kartavyam ciraṃ jīvati.

The Maharaja's Final Decision
गङ्गाधरराजः गुरुरोगेण पीडितः आसीत्। सः लक्ष्मीबाईम् उवाच — "राज्ञि, अस्माकं वंशस्य उत्तराधिकारी आवश्यकः।" "आसन्नकुलात् एकं बालकं दत्तकपुत्रत्वेन स्वीकुर्मः।" लक्ष्मीबाई सम्मतिम् अयच्छत्। एवं आनन्दरावः दत्तकपुत्रः अभवत् — नाम दामोदरराव इति।
Maharaja Gangadhar Rao was afflicted with a serious illness. He said to Lakshmibai — "Queen, our dynasty needs an heir." "From our clan, let us accept a boy as an adopted son." Lakshmibai gave her consent. Thus Anand Rao became the adopted son — with the name Damodar Rao.
