Yuddhāt pūrvaṃ sajjatā — paścāt śauryam.

Fortifying the Walls
लक्ष्मीबाई झाँसीदुर्गस्य भित्तीः दृढाः अकरोत्। शिल्पिनः, कर्मकाराः च रात्रिन्दिवम् कार्यम् अकुर्वन्। गोलाबारूदः, शस्त्राणि च संग्रहीतानि। राज्ञी स्वयं दुर्गं परिभ्रमन्ती व्यवस्थां पश्यति स्म। "प्रत्येका भित्तिः, प्रत्येकः द्वारः — सर्वं दृढम् भवतु।"
Lakshmibai strengthened the walls of Jhansi Fort. Craftsmen and workers laboured day and night. Gunpowder and weapons were gathered. The queen herself, going around the fort, oversaw the arrangements. "Every wall, every gate — let all be strong."
